【Must-Read for Travelers to Vietnam!】Visa Application Procedures for Japanese Nationals

Vietnam’s popularity as an overseas tourist destination continues to grow. Conversely, many Vietnamese students and tourists are also visiting Japan. Consequently, measures have been implemented under certain conditions to exempt Japanese nationals from requiring a visa when traveling to Vietnam.

Visa Requirements for Traveling to Vietnam

Japanese nationals traveling to Vietnam must apply for a visa using the following methods. Note that as of May 15, 2022, the “COVID-19 Border Control Measures” previously applied to travelers to Vietnam have been abolished, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

Visa Exemption for Stays Up to 45 Days (APEC Business Travel Card holders may stay up to 90 days). However, if the stay involves business or commercial activities for remuneration, the visa exemption does not apply.

For stays exceeding 45 days, a visa is required. Generally, apply at the Embassy or Consulate General of Vietnam in Japan. For online visas, apply via the dedicated website operated by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam.

This e-Visa issuance applies to individuals who do not harm Vietnam’s economic and foreign social development policies, national defense, public security, order, or social safety.

The airports where entry and exit using an e-Visa are permitted are the following 13 airports: Noi Bai International Airport, Van Don International Airport, Cat Bi International Airport, Phu Bai International Airport, Da Nang International Airport, Phu Cat International Airport, Cam Ranh International Airport, Lien Quan International Airport, Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Can Tho International Airport, Phu Quoc International Airport, Dong Hoi International Airport, and To Suan International Airport.
